Saying Yes (Plus A New Playlist!!)

Hey folks!! I’m really sorry I haven’t posted anything in a while, my life has been super busy with college work and stuff, but I figured I’d put up a playlist with some great songs that I’ve been listening to recently for you lovely people to check out.

At the beginning of this year I decided I’d set myself a few informal new year’s resolutions for the first time in my life. Most of them were pretty standard things like – eat healthier, don’t leave deadlines to the last minute and blog more frequently. Needless to say it’s now March and I have pretty much failed all of them. But that doesn’t matter because there’s still one pretty big resolution I’m trying to stick to, and that’s SAY YES MORE OFTEN. I know this probably sounds pretty straightforward (“it’s only 3 letters – how hard can it be?”), but for a massive over-thinker like me this was a pretty big deal 🙂 However, I have to admit doing this has been one of the best decisions I have made this year! In the space of a few months I have made so many great memories and met so many likeminded and positive people. I even managed to get tickets for me and a friend to see Radiohead later in May which should be really awesome and is something that I would’ve never done before. I guess what I’m trying to say is that you’d be surprised at just how many amazing opportunities will open up by simply saying yes every once in a while.

All of the songs on this playlist have either been recommended to me by friends or are new bands which I have discovered so far this year. These vary from acoustic stuff to indie-style remixes (as well as a really great remix from Radiohead’s last LP in preparation for the new album!!). There should be something for everyone and I really hope you like it! If you have any songs, bands or pretty much anything you’d like me to check out let me know in the comments or on my Tumblr (I love hearing from you guys!).

I hope you have an absolutely incredible week  🙂

Much Love

Sam xx

Take a Listen: Max Frost

Hey guys! A few months ago I heard “White Lies” by Max Frost, and completely fell in love with his voice. “White Lies” was featured on the Freckhled May Playlist, and just recently, Frost released his new album “Intoxication” on the 25th of September! I just came across it a few days ago and it’s easy to say that it’s hands down one of the catchiest albums I’ve heard in a while. Frost’s sound is super vintage, with a few bluesy hints that remind me of Chet Faker and back in 2013, he actually toured with one of my favorite performers, Fitz and The Tantrums. Last night I got the chance to see him play a small, acoustic set at one of my local Zia Records Exchange, and in my opinion his music is way better stripped down- which is extremely rare to find in live performances. The short set left me aching for more, and his raw performance seemed to come easy to him, all while still being passionate. I met Frost after the set, and he was super kind and laid back. He’s finishing up the rest of his North American tour this month, and I definitely recommend buying tickets if he stops by your city.

I’ve featured his songs “Withdrawal” and “Let Me Down Easy” on this month’s playlist, and don’t forget to check him out on Spotify and his website! I hope you enjoy & thanks for listening. xx

Freckhled October Playlist

Hi there, guys! It’s the 1st of the month, so you know what that means: A NEW PLAYLIST! This month’s playlist has been a little on the tougher side to make, simply because of the lack of new music. So therefore, this playlist has started to consist mostly of some older songs and a few remixes. As always it will be updated daily so keep checking back for any new tracks! Please let me know if you have any song suggestions; you can get a hold of me through my email and instagram! I hope you enjoy, and thanks for listening! xx

Take a Listen: Dylan Gardner

Hey guys! So last night Zella Day played at a local venue here in Phoenix, and I’d say that buying tickets last minute was probably one of the best decisions I’ve made in a long time. Dylan Gardner was the first of the two opening acts, and was hands down was the best performer of the night. The second he got on stage with his band, their stage presence and energy were exhilarating. The entire band looked like they loved performing, and the crowd had so much fun. Dylan’s music is a mix of upbeat pop rock, and he was recently signed to Warner Bros. He released his debut album “Adventures in Real Time” coincidentally on my best friend’s birthday last year: May 13th. The entire album is nonstop fun with a few killer ballads, and it definitely makes me dance and smile every time I hear it. At only 19, Dylan played one of the best sets I’ve ever seen, and I’m so glad that I was able to see him perform early on in his career. I even got the chance of meeting him after the show when I was buying one of his t-shirts, and he was super down to earth and seemed really sweet.

Take a listen to his Spotify here, and don’t forget to check out his website! I will also include the music video for “Let’s Get Started” which is my favorite song by Dylan! I hope you enjoy, and thanks for listening. xx

Take a Listen: Oh Wonder

Hey guys! I’ve decided that I’m going to start a new weekly post topic called “Take a Listen”. Each post will include the best new artists around (or maybe one depending on the week). To kick off a new column, I present you with Oh Wonder!

I first heard one of Oh Wonder’s songs on a Spotify Indie Electronica playlist that I threw on one day over the summer when packing for a vacation. I remember having a moment of complete awe when I heard the first notes to their song “Drive”, and I’ve completely fallen in love with the band ever since. Oh Wonder is a melodic pop duo made up of Anthony West and Josephine Vander Gucht. The band formed in London back in 2014, and that September they began releasing a song every month for the whole year. Therefore their self-titled debut album was released on September 4th of 2015. I featured “Drive” and “Technicolor Beat” on my Freckhled Back to School Playlist, and a mind-blowing, energetic “Lose It” remix by Jerry Folk on this month’s playlist! Oh Wonder is hands down the best breakout band of 2015, and I can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us. Listen here for a small Spotify playlist of my favorite songs by them, and don’t forget to take a look at their website.

Thanks so much for reading, and I hope you enjoy. Thanks for listening. xx

Freckhled September Playlist

Hey, cool cats! I’m back once again with my monthly playlists, picking back up with this month, September! The vibes for this playlist have started off with a more electronic ambient feel, with a few remixes that I’ve completely fallen in love with. As always I will keep updating daily, and I will also be taking song requests! I think it would be really cool to hear back from all of you who read this blog, so feel free to comment with any suggestions! Also don’t forget to comment with any new post ideas, or just anything you would like to see more of! Thanks for listening! Enjoy! xx

Freckhled Back to School Playlist

Things have been very hectic due to all of the traveling and moving around I’ve been doing, but I am back now and more ready than ever! I have compiled a Back to School Playlist which consists of some new and upcoming musicians, as well as some old, feel good classics. This playlist is perfect for anything from moving into your dorm, chilling with your roommates, or even doing homework. As always it will be updated daily so keep checking it often to hear some new music. I wish you all the best of luck in the new school year, and once again: Thanks for listening. xx
